Children are allocated a House team when they start at Slingsby School and remain in the house until they leave the school. The House points are awarded to our children each week via our Class Dojo system to reward positive behaviour that demonstrates the school’s values (Respect, Honesty, Resilience, Expectations and Caring for Others), teamwork, approach to work, and overall attitude. House Points encourage students to collaborate and work together towards common goals. They can also help children to develop teamwork skills and learn how to resolve conflict peacefully.
We also have a token system which runs alongside the Dojo points in contributing to achieving house points. This is intended to be a more visual representation of how each house is doing, and ensures that all staff and visitors are able to award a house point immediately to a child who shows great manners and demonstrates our Slingsby Values; wherever they are in school.
The House totals are revealed every Friday in our Celebration Assembly and a medal given to the winning house point members at the end of each term. This reinforces our expectations for excellent behaviour and manners in and around school, equipping the children with essential attributes for their future. Those children who are awarded the Slingsby Values Award also get to enjoy a drink of juice or hot chocolate and a biscuit on Monday afternoon with the Head Teacher in his office.
Our school council came up with the House names and designed the shields which we have proudly displayed below.
